How does back-linking work? how are they added?

Hi there experts,

As a small business owners i'm always looking for ways to have my name out there. This time i came a across a company offering 150 backlinks to my site for a fee. Since the cost wasn't much i went ahead to give a try, upon receiving the "work report" i noticed they added backlinks from many Russians an Indian sites, that really didn't bother me much, after all you get what you pay for.

What was most intriguing to me was the fact they added backlinks from other sites (legit sites) that if i go directly to the site i see no way or any section to add a short article\comment to be used for the same purpose. When i click on the links they take me a a section of the site where some "IT gibberish" text is shown then there's a link to my site but if i try to follow the link "path" i can't seem to find that section.

So the real questions is how are they doing it? Is it that they manage that website and they added a page for such purposes? I figure if i no else can do how is it possible they are adding text and backlinks from those websites?

thanks in advance.

They've hacked a bunch of sites and have added your link to them in return for the money you paid them.  This is a "black hat" SEO technique that Google will easily detect.

It will.  Prepare to watch your site either sink in the SERPS or get banned outright for link spamming.
