Domain type information

I am involved with a web site the URL of which is     abc.lc.
When input to a browser the correct site comes up. Google will tag it as expected.
But
whois will not give any information
It is said that .lc is not a recognized domain.
What is going on here?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The .lc top-level-domain is for the island of Santa Lucia. It sounds like you latched onto a who-is server that doesn't know about all the top-level-domains. On FreeBSD, the whois command takes a -l flag which  says to "Use the Latin American and Caribbean IP address Regional Registry (LACNIC) database.  It contains network numbers used in much of Latin America and the Caribbean."
