I have IP base remotely SQL Server 2008 r2. When I am creating ODBC on my stand alone computer it is working fine. but when I am creating ODBC at work on server and any client of server it is giving error SQL State 28000 and SQL server error 18456. What could be reason for this.

Check to see if your firewall at work is blocking the ports that are needed.  Compare it to the ports used on your standalone computer.
