Recovering mailbox from old Exchange server 2007 backup

Dear All,

We have already migrated to exchange server 2010 and then to 2013 from 2007 ,and also the exchange 2007 is decommissioned long back,we want to restore an email from the exchange 2007 backup,we have the backup of exchange 2007 taken from backup exec but while restoring it is asking for the original exchange 2007 server which is not available anymore,
in this case how do i restore the mailbox ,i have heard about couple of tools available for extracting pst from edb files, but the problem is to restore the edb files i don't have the server,is there any other option available .

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

just an idea - it could be a bit of work
you may be able to restore the server backup to a Virtual Machine (possibly disconnected from the network) and mount the back database, and restore it, export the mailbox to a pst, and reimport it to the new exchange server
Can you restore just the mailbox database files & folders.? Rather than restoring an exchange server.
If possible then you could create a recovery DB and run the edb files up to restore a mailbox.

How are you restoring the mailbox? Directly out of backupexec? Or have you mounted a recovery db in exchange?
SysguysAuthor Commented:
directly from backupexec, because the backup was agent based not file level backup.

I ended up buying an third party edb to pst converter tool it saved lot of time ,no need to wasting time or creating the whole infrastructure again.
