Alternative is to guage the signal range of the APs and then position them strategically.
You can use wireless networking applications to measure actual signals.

TIPS
- Brick walls limit signal accros rooms
- Microwave or electromagnetic waves can interfere with signals
- Position APs with about 20% overlap
- Use Auto settings for channel detection on the controller
