Receiving a few Veeam 8 backup jobs errors. Need to understand what they mean.

Every now and then, some of my backup jobs will fail and I would get an email alert but will not understand what they mean. It always seem the backup job fails the first time, then after a backup retry attempt, it will then backup successfully. It comes to a point where I'd like to understand what the backup error mean. See error messages below, and please help to explain what they mean.

If I need to get more details about a backup job failure, what logs should I look into in the C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup\Backupjob folder? Should I look at job.backup.log,, task.log, agent.log, agent.vddkhelper.log, agent.hotadd.attacher.log, or agent.vmdk.log file? (see screenshot)

Hi Joukie,

what is the type of backup you are performing is it a hotadd backup or a network backup or FC based.

it looks more like a communication failure between the backup host and the Datastore and this is likely caused by the network latency.

When the backup is running verify the performance metrics for the NIC usage on the ESXi host were the VMs are residing and the destination VM.

I've seen this backup error when using Lenovo/EMC/iOmega NAS storage. The samba software on their NAS devices close network connections automatically during backup.
If such device is not involved then check your network.

We usually do full backup once a week, followed by daily forward incremental.
