Outline your approach to the project

Hello,

Any suggestions on how to detail/ outline your approach to a project in vb6.0 or vb.net. Thanks in advance.

Cheers

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Example@
We have a vb.net and are using ssrs for reporting.

I need help using the reportviewer tool in a vb.net program where I can set the server information, report name, and parameters in the code and then launch the report.

We have a program that works but it is using the reportviewer extended and we are having issues with printing.

We could continue using the program we have if that is the better route, or we can start over with just the reportviewer tool.

Any suggestions on this one?
Cheers

To me that does not look like an outline of a project.
You have sort of said what you want to do.  How you intend to do it is really missing.  If more than one way (in your example the reporting tool) is possible then you need to list the pros and cons and why you decide for one over the others.

I can't write it for you - you know what you want/intend to do to accomplish your goals.

Sorry Andy, thats not what I meant ,I do not want you to write for me,but wanted a guidline or a reference of any article on how to write scope and methodology.

if your main goal is to overcome the issues your current program has with reports, your first step definitively is to find out the reasons for the issues and ways to solve the issues.

after this analysis and given there are different ways to solve the issues together with meeting the general requirements, you may compare the pros and cons of the alternatives as Andy suggested. if this ends with a decision for a new vb.net solution,  you finally can make a design for this program and/or ask for a guideline how to achieve that.

if you would do this last step now, it is a good chance that you got a new program which has the same issues.
