Windows 10 offer

I have HP Laptops and when I rebuild a machine using the re-install windows 7 discs and install updates, then the Windows 10 free offer appears and I can upgrade.
If I do not upgrade and continue to build the system which includes joining it to a domain, renaming, etc.   Now the win10 icon goes away.
Anyway to get it back and upgrade from there ?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Once you join a domain, the update (Windows 10 Upgrade goes through Windows Updates) probably goes away due to domain policy.  We wouldn't want random domain users upgrading their own machines without IT's guidance!  If you want to get it back, you should be able to remove the machine from the domain and check Windows Update after the reboot.  The upgrade should appear there or in the system tray where you saw it the first time.

Ah good point on the policy.  I'll give one a try.  Thanks
Removing machines from the domain can cause problems when re-adding. For example software installation policies are re-applied and some softwares don't like being re-installed (example: sun java jre 1.6_30).

That's why for the upgrade you shouldn't disjoin the domain. Simply download the media creation tool, download the ISO file with it and that's all.

I have tried that, but after the install it won't activate with the OEM license number.
I am doing something wrong.?
Yes you are, I am afraid. OEM is entitled to upgrade, simply do an upgrade installation, not a clean installation. The next windows build might offer what you tried: directly entering the win7/8.1 key and installing 10 clean. The latest insider build had that functionality.

Ah yes you are right, I was trying a clean install with the ISO.
I'll give it another try.   Thanks
