how do i manage permissions for multiple members who need edit access to 1 library

in sp 2013 i have a group of 100 members with read only access.  For one library ONLY  I want 50 of these members to have edit access.  I know i can break inheritance on the library, but i do not want to add 50 names individually to the library to have special permissions.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

simply create a new SharePoint group. Add the users to this group. Then give this group "Contribute" permissions on the library (via breaking inheritance).

Therefore you assign permissions only to the group and not to individuals directly.

thanks rainer..but then wont this group have contribute permissions to the rest of the site do i prevent the new group cascading to the the site collection and other words the group would only be relevant to the 1 library...thx

When you create the group then give the group either no direct permission OR just "View only" permissions.

When you then break the permission inheritance on the library, you can then add the group and then assign the group "Contribute" permissions on the library.
