asked on

how do i manage permissions for multiple members who need edit access to 1 library

in sp 2013 i have a group of 100 members with read only access.  For one library ONLY  I want 50 of these members to have edit access.  I know i can break inheritance on the library, but i do not want to add 50 names individually to the library to have special permissions.

Hi,
simply create a new SharePoint group. Add the users to this group. Then give this group "Contribute" permissions on the library (via breaking inheritance).

Therefore you assign permissions only to the group and not to individuals directly.

thanks rainer..but then wont this group have contribute permissions to the rest of the site then...how do i prevent the new group cascading to the the site collection and subsites...in other words the group would only be relevant to the 1 library...thx
