I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Getting errors.

This works:
set @input = 'joe_123,billy_7,house_12853,samsung_12345,a_1kirr'

This does not:
set @input1 = String.Join(",", @input .Split(',').Select(x => x.Split('_')[0]));   (see attachment)

Sorry, I gave it for C#, overlooked sql tag, Will update soon
@Najam is using c#, but it sounds like you need TSQL. Several ways, but this works:
DECLARE @str VARCHAR(255) = 'joe_123,billy_7,house_12853,samsung_12345,a_1kirr'

WHILE (CHARINDEX('_', @str)  > 0)
	SET @str = LEFT(@str, CHARINDEX('_', @str)-1) + CASE WHEN CHARINDEX(',', @str) = 0 THEN '' ELSE '||' +  SUBSTRING(@str, CHARINDEX(',', @str)+1, LEN(@str)) END

SET @str = REPLACE(@str, '||', ',')

Open in new window

You could put that into a function and then use
SELECT fnc_GetCleanedString(@str)
