Outlook 2013 searches super slow

My Outlook 2013 Searches are super slow.    I have an Outlook 2013 mailbox PST file size over 7GB.    Well organized into folders.

Years ago I turned off "Windows Search" hooks into Outlook contents figuring it was slowing down my PC in general.
      a)  PST File properties, Advanced, unchecked  -->  [  ] Allow this file to have contents indexed in addition to the file
      b)  In Outlook File | Options | Search | Index Options ,  I removed Microsoft Outlook from the list of locations.

Q:  Are searches from within Outlook either via the "Search Mailbox" or "Advanced Search"  related to Windows Search in any way?     Is there a way to just search for Outlook messages without getting the entire Windows OS involved with indexing.

How about 3rd party search alternatives?      Just for Outlook 2013.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Start from the basic and turn off any Antivirus, etc. to eliminate it as the cause.  If not, then it's also scanning while you're doing your search or while Outlook is indexing.

Hi,

•      Cached Exchange Mode must be turned on.
•      Rebuild the mailbox index.

Thank You

I ended up reenabling Windows Search, no other quick viable options.  Search seems to run a little better.  Still crappy search functionality in Outlook 2013 overall.
