not sure were the bits are "configure"
i have downloaded the exe to see what it looks like but havenot located the files to run the configure over
check the 'INSTALL' file in the archive's root directory for instructions ------ i have not been able to find this file at all, as i said brand new to this package  can you point ne in the right direction please
Well, I found both - the configure script and 'INSTALL' right in the topmost directory of the archive or in the root directory after unpacking it, respectively.
that means that i have not got the project zip were did you get that from please
I have the file down loaded and unziped and have found the config and install doc, not sure what to do from there have read the install doc, and its as clear as mud from what to do from there

the shell command `./configure && make && make install'
this line that is in  the comment above not sure what to do with this one as you mentioned, this is a area that is new to me, sorry to be a pain. can you point me in the right direction
OK, so strt with that: What OS are you on?
windows 8
Then you will definitely need Cygwin...
havestarted working through this doc
https://github.com/Gnucash/gnucash-on-windows
Yikes, that uses WebKit. Which in turn requires Qt. That might work, but prepare for a lot of effort....
bad idea then............ any suggestions
Cygwin ? ;-)
have loaded up Cygwin
not sure what to do with it but it its loaded
