Cannot install office on system

Hello,

I have a co worker who uninstalled MS Office from their computer.  She then attempts to install a different version of Office after rebooting and is given the error message that a 64 bit version cannot be installed on a 32 bit system.  She is running Windows 7 64 bit.  We have researched everything we have found on the net and have performed all of the lengthy procedures in an attempt to remove any and all remnants of the old Office installation, yet it is still not letting her install?  I see all kinds of similar posts on the net referencing this problem, but we cannot get past it.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Mike

DO you mean the error states that a 32-bit version of Office is already installed? Check add/remove programs (programs and features) and see if anything Office related is there such as Access, Visio, etc is there.

I did not personally see the error message.  She tells me that the Office install crashes and tells her that her system is a 32 bit system, but it is not.
She uninstalled Office 2007 and is now attempting to install Office 2010.
If possible, get a screenshot or at least confirm the specific error message. Also review the add/remove programs (programs and features) and review the list of installed software items. Many obscure items that are stand-alone installations like Access drivers for example can cause similar errors.
I suggest she use Office 2010 32-bit. Office 64-bit continues to have many constraints and needs everything around it to be 64-bit. That may be why it is crashing. There is (normally) no downside to 32-bit Office.

Also check in My Computer, Properties to ensure the OS really is 64-bit.
Install the 32 bit version of Office. It is far more reliable than the 64 bit version and works better. There are only some very rare cases where you need a 64 bit version, mainly for huge excel sheets or in some cases for access.
"She tells me that the Office install crashes and tells her that her system is a 32 bit system, but it is not." <- This statement is too vague... please ask for the exact wordings...

My wild guess is that Office 2007 has not yet been completely removed, have a look of the link below to download and install the fix.
