Outlook For Mac - emails slow to arrive

We have a rather odd issue with Outlook 2016 for mac whereby emails no longer arrive in a prompt manner. Our users are seeing a delay of upto 45mins before their new emails appear. We have 15 macs and 4 now have this issue.

Not only do our users complain profusely about this but also one of our clients has spotted the deterioration in our response time.

To our knowledge this issue started in late September so I'm thinking an update could well be the cause. Our users have not yet upgraded to El Capitan.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Or perhaps has anyone got a fix for this problem? As usual there are a few posts on Technet and MSDN forums but no official response from Msft.

Many Thanks,
Rob

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hey you can do the following steps if your email arrive delay

From the Mail menu, click Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors

Store draft messages on the server > leave unchecked

Sent:

Store sent messages on the server > leave unchecked

Junk:

Store junk messages on the server > checked Delete junk messages when > Never

Sadly it wont work for us. We use Exchange accounts therefore those options are not available for Exchange accounts.

What version of Exchange are you using? Here is an MS KB that describes a problem with Exchange 2010 servers that could cause your problem:

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I am somewhat reluctant to start focusing on our exchange server when this is issue is clearly a Outlook for Mac thing. We have a total of 130 users spread across 3 different exchange servers. This issue is only happening on 2 out of the 3 servers and only affecting the mac users.

Do you have any suggestions relating to Outlook For Mac 2016?

While you are correct to keep the primary focus on the client side, if there are indeed issues with some versions on the server side, it could not hurt to at least document the specs of your server.  That way you know what you are dealing with, at the very least.

Good point Tim I totally agree. I will also be giving our Exchange servers a once over. I have organised a weekend maintenance window in 2 weeks time to upgrade us to sp3 which could well fix the problem.

In the meantime I am v keen to hear any client side suggestions people have.

Any luck in resolving your issue?

What were the results of assessing / upgrading your Exchange server?

It appears a Microsoft update for office 365 fixed this one, after several weeks we updated all the clients and this fixed the problem.

Thanks for all your suggestions.
