I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

When you convert Lead to Client, your Lead record must be alive (should be available either in deactivated state or with different status reason in case it is still in activated stage). Please find out by yourself.

When your client is no longer your client, you can simply disable the client record and re-activate the lead record if it is still not.

ok what if you wanted to keep their data and which products they bought when they are converted back to a lead?

This all depends on what you mean by no longer a client.  If you convert a lead to create an account/contact/opportunity records why would you want to go back to a lead record?

The expectation with CRM is that after converting a lead you don't take the customer back to a lead record.

You could do this by deactivating the client and reactivating the lead or may be creating a new leads, but first you need to be clear on your business process and then you can set this up in CRM.

If you want to keep their data and products they bought then I strongly recommend that you keep the client record and do nothing. What business advantage do you gain by going back to a lead?
