Remote Desktop Printing

Good day,

Scenario:

Server:
Server 2012 Standard 64-bit

Clients:
Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
Windows 8 Pro 64-bit
Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit

Printer:
Konica Minolta Bizhub 363 connected through ethernet

Issue:

We have a few workstations that connect to the server on remote site through RDP to use an accounting program.
What I have noticed is the local printers show up as redirected, but when you print to it nothing happens, no error and no printing.

Event viewer on remote server:

The document Print Document, owned by administrator, failed to print on printer KONICA MINOLTA 363Series - ***(redirected 2). Try to print the document again, or restart the print spooler.
Data type: RAW. Size of the spool file in bytes: 42723. Number of bytes printed: 0. Total number of pages in the document: 1. Number of pages printed: 0. Client computer: \\*Servername*. Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 5. Access is denied.

What we do now is to print to PDF and save the file on the redirected C-drive. In the past I have used printing through RDP and it worked fine with no extra configuration.

Is there any way to make this work as it will be more convenient.

Thanks in advance

JJT

go to the site

http://www.biz.konicaminolta.com/download/driver.html#mainContents

download the PCL 6 Universal print drivers and install then on server as well as client machines ...

here is the driver model : PCL6  2015-09-16        2.80.0.0

it should work...

all the best

Hi Shaik,

I installed that specific server 2008 version of the driver on the server, and in this case that specific windows 8.1 driver on the workstation, still no print job coming out. Should it be same driver (Windows 8.1) on both the workstation and server? and in that case, how do I work if I have users with windows 7 aswell?

Regards

In the event viewer on server:

If I go on the server on the redirected printer and properties, when I check the security the everyone group is not there, can the access denied event log error be related to that? PS. When I check the printer security on workstation it shows everyone has print permissions.

Most likely. Add Everyone and see if it solves the problem.

Take Dan's advice, it is dead on.

Another solution would be to use a program called Screwdrivers, which would handle the driver end of things for you and prevent you from having to load drivers of various printers on the server.

We have a few workstations that connect to the server on remote site through RDP to use an accounting program.
By accounting program, did you mean account tracking on the copier?
If yes, it looks like account the tracking settings are not reflected on the RDP computers.
Depending on what features of account tracking is used, by name, by account number, or user authentication in conjunction with account tracking etc, that will determine the parameters you set on the print preferences.
There's also an option to allow printing without authentication, but that is not effective if the desire is to track individual printing.

Your first step is to verify the type of authentication on the copier
If user authentication is on or account tracking or both.
Verify that the setting on the computers match the settings or reconfigure as necessary
You may also need to configure preferences on the Printing Defaults under the advanced tab and not just the printing preferences.
