VMWARE Esxi freezes.

Hi today morning our Esxi freezes.

I have attached an image. Sorry for "quality". Can some one explain me this error? :(

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Yes, this is called a PSOD, Purple Screen of Death, often caused by bad hardware, bad driver, not compatible server, or a Bug with the OS.

As you are using a HP Server, check your hardware is on the HCL, check hardware for failure, fans, cpu, storage controllers, network interfaces.

check your firmware is update to date, from the HP Firmware DVD, and also update your version ogf ESXi 5.5, that version is about 2 years old, it's the first version of ESXi 5.5 GA, released in Sept 2013.

There have been many updates since, and the latest is October 2015.

Does it only occur, with a specific VM ?

You can find the latest patches by going to: https://www.vmware.com/patchmgr/findPatchByReleaseName.portal

And look for eSXI 5.5

The latest version:

Product:ESXi (Embedded and Installable) 5.5.0

Download Size:334.8 MB

So as Andrew said you are many versions behind and that may very well be why these issues are cropping up.  There is an easy command line process for update. You will first need to upload the patch to your datastore.  You will then need to SSH (You can use a putty client) (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html)  to connect to your eSXi host from a physical machine (not a vm!).    Here are the steps for the update:

Update Steps

To check for updates:
google search esxi patch portal
then search for the correct vmware version 5.5 (I gave you the link for this above)

Place host into maintenance mode (From VMWare Client)

In the SSH session (Your datastore path may vary):
List image profiles in the patch:
esxcli software sources profile list --depot=/vmfs/volumes/PrimaryDatastore/ESXi550-201510001.zip

Update with dry-run option(I would suggest trying this first):
esxcli software profile update --depot=/vmfs/volumes/PrimaryDatastore/ESXi550-201510001.zip --dry-run --profile=ESXi-5.5.0-20151004001-standard

*when you run the command above you should have a brief pause and then see a bunch of output streamed to the screen. If you see that you are good to proceed to the next step:

Update (For Real):
esxcli software profile update --depot=/vmfs/volumes/PrimaryDatastore/ESXi550-201510001.zip --profile=ESXi-5.5.0-20151004001-standard

Reboot the host:

Take host out of maintenance mode (From VMWare Client)

After you reboot and take the host out of maintenance mode you should see your build number reflecting (3116895) and hopefully your purple screen of death time will be over.

Hope this helps!

This is off topic, and needs a new question posting.
John Gates, CISSPSecurity ProfessionalCommented:
Agreed a new question is needed as it is a new subject altogether.
