How popular / widely used is the WSAT functionality in visual studio?

This is more of a popular / common practice question more than anything. Just looking for opinions. So as the title asks: How popular / widely used is the WSAT functionality in visual studio these days? I know it is a matter of preference to some degree, but are they really that helpful any more? Why would you choose to use it verses building the interface? (other than the time you may save coding / laying out pages etc.). Just wanted to get some input / thoughts on this. Thanks for your time in advance.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

It has actually been depreciated in favor of using Microsoft ASP.NET Identity.
A good replacment is Thinktecture IdentityManager

I really wish there was some starting from ground 0 type video(s) for this. I feel like I'm walking into the middle of a lecture on how to do this (how to set this up). I feel like I'm missing a lot of information. I've downloaded the Thinktecture 3 and I think I understand that I need to create my own application and some how incorporate this into it but I have no clue where to really begin or how to use this. Is there any beginners videos on this? Its making very little sense right now.
