installing windows 8.1 on samsung 950 pro nvme ssd

setting up my new m2 drive on my asus x99-E WS/3.1 motherboard.  

installing windows 8.1 from scratch.  any special settings in bios i need to worry about so that it uses nvme and not ahci?  or will is auto use nvme?

Following we can see that your mainboard supports nvme beginning with bios version 1003. So make sure your bios is current, at least 1003 and you'll be able to configure it in the bios/uefi if I am not mistaken.

updated to latest bios and it auto installed it as nvme without me having to do anything
