"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You are installing a component that's already part of windows 8 (and the setup is for vista). Can only fail. No need for action.

Yes - search is already built-in on your system.

Open Control Panel, Index Options and make sure Users is included in Indexed Locations. I am assuming you have your Outlook PST / OST files in the default location.

Thanks for you advice. The reason why i am trying to do that is because i am trying to make the "Indexing Options" the is grey out (see picture atached- this one is not grey out) but i need to index the search for this laptop because when i search "Sent items" in Outlook it takes too long to search for email I have sent.

Do you know how can i make this "Indexing Options" to work?

Indexing Options in Control Panel should be available to the user and if not, there might be something else wrong.

Yes, please show us a screen shot. In the meantime, run System File Checker.

Open cmd.exe with Run as Administrator and run SFC /SCANNOW twice. Allow to complete, shut down (power off), start up and test.

Ok. Can you open indexing options from within control panel? That would be just the same.

The indexing options you showed are in Outlook. Make sure Windows Search is running and set up correctly.

Windows Search should be running, but look at this Microsoft Support article for turning on Search if need be.

The screenshot shows outlook, but clicking on that button triggers the OS indexing options, that's why he should try to call those directly.
