Is there a lighter weight battery I can install in my macbook?

Macbook Pro
15-inch, Mid 2012
OS X El Capitan
Processor 2.3GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 16GB
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB
240GB  SSD

I've taken the plate off and see the battery inside.  It looks like I can remove it?
If I can what battery can I buy to replace the current one AND it be lighter weight?

Use this https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201300 link to properly identify your Macbook Pro.  We want the serial number.  Post it here.

And it is very unlikely there will be a lighter weight battery for your Mac but post the serial number first.

also - if you find a lighter weight battery - it probably has a lesser capacity

Short answer Kyle is NO .. you'll not find an Apple or legitimate replacement that is lighter.

The core battery technology in laptop batteries is the same and the only way to lighten the laptop to leave it permanently plugged into the wall socket .. then you don't need a battery!! ;-)

Lithium batteries are already the lightest weight available.  You'll need a new leap in battery technology to go further.  You might be able to shoehorn a smaller battery from a Macbook Air into it and make it lighter, but you would have less battery life.

The newer Macbooks with newer CPUs & GPUs have better battery life because they have lower power consumption.  You should buy a newer Macbook Pro or even the Macbook if you want longer battery life.

I think your Mac is MD103LL/A (printed on underside of Mac)
http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-i7-2.3-15-mid-2012-unibody-usb3-specs.html

I think your Battery is Model No. A1382 (printed on battery)
Replacement Battery:
http://www.apple-laptop-battery.com/macbook-pro-15.4-inch-md103ll-a-battery-81626.htm

Please check that the Battery is Model No. A1382 and that the connector is the same before you order.

Note: Replacement Battery is the same weight as your original. (you cannot get a lighter battery)

I confirmed the serial number matches 15inch mid 2012.

Since I replaced the hard drive to a ssd I was curious if the battery had a lighter option.  It appears from most responses there is no lighter weight battery option.

Thanks for everyone's replies!

PS If I could afford a new macbook I would, but for now was just seeing if there are ways to lighten up this current macbook!

You can remove the "super"drive if you don't need it  Most people don't anymore.  You'll shave off maybe 1/4-1/3 lb.  Be sure to tape up that slot afterwards.  If you've replaced a HD with SSD, you've already lightened it a tiny bit.  That's about all you can really do.
