VCSA root password

How reset VCSA root password. This article talks about resetting but does now clearly show, if original salt should include for three letter part of hash. Kind of confusing when you are copying if $ sign needs to be copied from both side or not.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Salt is the second $ up to the next $. Will use the following as example :

$6 = SHA512

$fqwF7emu = salt

$tq3k ... = hashed password

After that replace the new hashed password in /mnt/etc/shadow.

mkpasswd -m sha-512 <NewPassword> <original salt>
vi /mnt/etc/shadow
