Recommended Free Hard Disk / Partition Imaging and Cloning Software

I am looking for a free recommended Hard Disk / Partition Imaging and Cloning Software.  When I use snapshot it images the entire drive and when I try to use that image on another drive I run into the error of the image being larger than the drive I am trying to add the image to.  So, I need a software that gives me the option on imaging partitions to avoid the error of not having enough space on the drive I am trying to add the image to.  The operating system I am backing up is Windows 7.  Thanks for your help.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You will always at least need as much space on the new HD as the space used on the old one.

A very good free product is CloneZilla, but if your new partitions are going to be smaller than the original ones, you will have to use it in expert mode, and not beginner mode. There you can adapt your settings.

You could also, before making the images, reduce the size of the partitions you are going to image. That way you can avoid the problem. For that you can use GParted which is also free and OpenSource.

Both of those tools (among with other imaging tools like Partimage), are included on the PCRepix LiveDVD:
