I need to get a good grip in understanding IOPS, Throughput  and Latency.
Do you have any good  guide with simple explanations for this please?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Reach out to VMWare customer service and ask about a Ops Manager eval and they should start the process of getting you setup with the OVA.

To rephrase my request:  I need a basic guide that explains IOPS, Throughput  and Latency in VMware.

IOPS, Throughput, and Latency are all measurement terms used to quantify the performance of a system.

IOPS (Input/Output Operations per Second) is literally how many individual operations can be done in a second. This is normally used to measure storage devices, but it could be used for other things. The more IOPS you can do, usually the better the performance.

Throughput is measuring how fast one can push data to a device. If you think of lanes in a highway, 4 lanes will give you better throughput than 2 lanes.

Latency is the measurement of the time it takes for a request to receive a response. In terms of networks, this would be the time it takes for a computer to receive a response from its request.  Having your response be instantaneous would be ideal, however that is normally not the case. Most systems require many request/responses. Lower latency usually equates to better performance.

All of these things can be easily looked up on the web.
