asked on

QR Code

Dear Experts,
I was just requested to research this topic.  My coworker needs to create a QR code, which when scanned by a mobile device, automatically downloads a PDF file.  I asked her if is was enough to bring the user to a website where "download" button exists, and she said that she does not want that extra step.  She wants the file to download automatically.

My question is, if this code was to be included in our  marketing materials for years to come, what type of services/utilities are out there that would be:
1. Secure
2. Reliable, we don't want the QR code to ever change once we start using.
3. (this one is hard but) Cheap.

We don' have any experience with this, and we are not sure what type of file hosting should be employed.  Please advise.

If you can host the file yourself, this is not very complex.  Just point the QR code to the exact web address of the PDF such as   www.mycompany.com/QR_files/mypdf_QR1.pdf

Maybe I'm over simplifying or missing something?

You can get a code created on many sites via a google search.

Dear Ray,  Thank you for your reply.
so. for example, if I went to www.qrstuff.com and generated a code to point to my own file on our server, this is secure enough, and also will open pdf as soon as the smartphone scans the code?
