Firewall Recommendation for RDS using VPN

Hello Experts,

I am looking for a firewall recommendation. The goal is to connect 5 remote users to remote desktop services on a Windows Server 2012 Standard R2 server. The setup will be an internal RDS not an RDS gateway in conjunction with the firewall vpn. The users will be mainly using QuickBooks and MS Office. We might be doing some video streaming as well in the future, but we are not sure how we will accomplish that yet. Do you think that will change the cost of the firewall significantly? If so, forget it. We only have a budget of $2,000 for the firewall.

Here is what  I know the firewall should have:

1. Cost should be under $2,000

2. Wireless: 802.11ac and 802.11n

3. Access for 5 simultaneous users via VPN

4. Ease of use or added compatibility for RDS / Terminal server

So far I have being looking at these three products the Cisco Meraki MX64W, the Cisco ASA 5506 series and the SonicWALL TZ400, but I am not sure which one is the best fit for our needs. Please don't feel restricted to these three choices. Pretty much we are like everybody else. We want the fastest device for the least amount of money. But the final goal is to find the very best device for what we are wanting to do with the budget that we have. Please post the one that you think is the very best one . . . and may the best firewall win.

Thanks in advance.

Carlmd,

Do I need to buy the Total Secure subscription? It adds $340.25 for 1 yr. It comes with a 30 days trial at no additional cost. Adding this will break our budget.

The only things that I added to the TZ500 are the Wireless-AC for $130 and the 5 SSL VPN user licenses for  $250 ($50 each). That bring us to a grand total of $1,837 before tax and shipping.
Don't you want the protection afforded by the subscriptions? A firewall without GAV, IP etc is not all that useful. These subscriptions also have an annual (or multi year) cost after the first year.

You don't want to price the Sonicwall by pieces, just the Wireless Total Secure package and the 5 licenses. The price I gave above ($1,825) is for all that you asked for and still under your budget.

Go to www.sonicguard.com for this pricing. Select the TZ500 Wireless On the top bar select Products then TZ Series then Wireless Models then TZ500. On the next page pick Total Secure Bundle for $1,652. After that scroll down and expand TZ500 VPN Licenses. There you will see the pricing for the additional SSLVPN licenses.
Carlmd,

I was looking at the prices from the Dell website. The prices at sonicguard.com are better. How many SSL or IPSec VPN licenses does the unit come with? Do you know?

I am glad I asked about the cost. Your advice has proven to be very helpful.

Thanks a lot!
It comes with 2 SSLVPN licenses.

Sonicguard is reputable, and you will have no problem buying there.
Carlmd,

Thanks for all your help.
