Outlook Cached mode and Windows Roaming profiles

Greetings,

Our company is currently using Windows 7 with Exchange 2013 along with a mixture of Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013. Are there any best practices regarding Windows Roaming profiles with Cached mode in Outlook.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Best practice is don't mix the two.  The outlook cache (*.ost) file won't roam, and you wouldn't want it to with the size that it gets.  If you have to use roaming profiles, then you should put Outlook in online mode.

I agree with Dons6718:  Cached Exchange Mode should not be used with roaming profiles because OST files can be very, very large (I've seen them as large as 20 or 30GB).

Agreed. Roaming profiles can be a nightmare anyway and dragging a cached mailbox around makes them worse. The only alternative to not using them would be to set mailbox max size limits, which can create a whole other set of problems.
