Wordpress symposium attack

I am getting the following attach alert:

[SID: 28123] Web Attack: WordPress Symposium Plugin Shell Upload attack blocked. Traffic has been blocked for this application: SYSTEM

I don't have any Symposium plugin in that site. Is there any other plugin that uses this code I should remove ?

Not as far as we know, no - but as always, you should keep your eyes on sites like Bugtraq for news of newly announced vulnerabilities in Wordpress, its plugins, and indeed everything else you run.

Looks like there is attempts for upload arbitrary files into WP, the alerts are due to vulnerability in  'wp-symposium/server/php/index.php' and 'wp-symposium/server/php/UploadHandler.php' scripts. Since you have no symposium plugin then those path should not exist, better to confirm and also on similar php used other where in the CMS (esp if the site is co-hosted and can suffer from collateral damage if other site in the same server has that plugin). This old "vulnerability" already has a patch to close the gap.

At times, false positive may be trigger by IDS due to those similar "wording" (be it part of the the path statement etc) during their traffic inspection...you may also want to check out if such traffic (or from the scanner) is available. Regardless, better to ensure the latest version of WP and its plugin used. See this updated list of vulnerabilities - good to subscribe to mailing list https://wpvulndb.com/

I confirm path doesn't exist. So I understand they are just looking. All plugins are up to date. Also blocking ips that are trying to find such paths.
