I would like to know what are all the DNS records needed on public DNS as well as on internal DNS for exchange server to send /receive emails internally and externally.

Thank you

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Exchange 2013 uses the same name for external and internal.

You will have to configure split dns  to resolve name to internal IP from internal network

I searched google before I posted the question.
It would be nice to post a screenshot of DNS console showing the A, MX, CNAME records on the public DNS , how they are laid out.  The same thing for DNS records on the internal DNS.

you can use windows DNS and mimic one console for Public DNS and on console for Internal DNS.

Thank you

Step one create A record
e.g. mail.domain.com points to external IP

Step two.
Create MX record with mail.domain.com (created above) with priority 10 or 5

Please let me know I am of any clarification
