VMware vCenter Operations Manager Foundation licensing

Hi All,

Can anyone please let me know if VMware vCenter Operations Manager Foundation 5.8.5 appliance is part of the vSPhere Enterprise Plus edition license ?

I already have Veeam ONE v8.0 so I wonder what would be the difference between those two.

Thanks.

Well, since the vSphere edition is the Enterprise Plus I would imagine so but I would recommend contacting VMware support to determine exactly what licensing you have and what is included in it and how it compares with Veeam One 8.0. I would also contact Veeam and talk to them.

Yes it is, VMware now provide a VMware vCenter Operations Manager Foundation license with all version of vSphere. So you will find it included.

The foundation version is entry level, and VMware include it for free, to encourage you to purchase/upgrade to a higher version.

VMware vCenter Operations Manager uses the data from vCenter Server database to calculate and run analysis on your VMware estate, and draw conclusions, and one reports on Capacity Management and Health, so some features will be duplicated by Veeam On 8.0.

As it does not take very much time to deploy it, because it's an appliance, and it takes 1-2 weeks to collect and analyse the data, why not deploy it today?

it will only take 5-10 minutes, the longest part is the download.

Thanks Andrew,

I can see in my production environment already got old instance of this OpsManager two VMs running as vAPP with the Ops manager UI VM and Monitoring VM.

So how do I upgrade them safely without causing VCenter or other production VM downtime ?

That's correct, that's VMware vCenter Operations Manager.

Upgrading the appliance, depends on the version, it does not cause any issues with vCenter Server or VMs.

It depends on the version you are running, if an upgrade is available.

This is how you upgrade...
