SQL - create salt

Is there a way to create a unique salt value in an SQL database when an entry is made ?  or do I need to insert it myself from my ASP file. I am fine with either .. just curious

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Define 'salt file'.  Table salt?

A code to insert into one of my columns, which added to a hash will give a unique password.
I can generate a 10 digit code and insert it into the DB column, but I was thinking perhaps SQL does that itself ?
the code has to be random and unique.
