Linux mint internet connection sharing

Linux Minty 17

Does anyone know if there is a simple way/tutorial to change the shared LAN adapter from 10.42.0.1 to 192.168.1.1?

Everything I've been through involves IP tables, routes and all other kinds of bricking potential.

Someone said I have to uninstall network manager, change the source code to replace the subnet from 10.42.0.1 to 192.168.1.1 and then recompile it.  That's hilarious....

What I'm asking is very simple...  I want to create a LAB network (shared internet connection) which doesn't interfere with, but mimics my production network (192.168.1.0/24).

Thanks in advance!

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I would say get a cheap router/switch, put your existing network cable in the Wan port of the router. Connect existing PC to one of the 4 other ports, connect up to 3 other PC's.

I want an entirely virtual setup.

To my knowledge, you would need at least 2 NIC's for this.

Abandoned linux and went with windows vista.  Much better documentation on the subject and easier to come to task.

The idea for the project was supposed to be a simple solution for sharing internet without an internet sharing appliance.  I was unable to get linux minty's (network manager) to perform correctly without changing source code, so I decided against.  Microsoft Vista, although it eats up a CAL on my network, was updated and up in running in an hour.
