Embedded Java interfacing with LCD screen?

I'm tinkering with the idea of developing in Java for an embedded system.

The system has a somewhat primitive LCD screen, with black and white pixels, 180x160 pixels.

How does one interface Java with a specific hardware screen?

What sort of "screen" class would I make, so I can interface this with Java?

Are there any examples?

(and then of course I'll also made an LCD screen emulator class which somehow displays on a regular computer screen.)

In theory that will all be taken care of by the OS.  http://docs.oracle.com/javase/8/docs/api/java/awt/GraphicsEnvironment.html should tell you what you're actually dealing with.
