Microsoft Word for Mac

I am using  Word 2008 for Mac Version 12.0.0 (071130)

Easy question---
When I enter text and keep typing it word wraps just find single spaces everything.  THe text wraps appears on the next line and all is fine.

If I don't  want to enter a full line of text and just hit the enter key to get to the next line I get a double space.

This is what I want

Dear Jim
How are you

This is what I am getting:

Dear Jim

How are you.

How do I control this spacing?  I cant find it in any of the menus.

Thank You

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Shift+Enter will force a single space.
