SBS2008. Upgrade Exchange 2007 -> 2010

I do some work for a small company with an old SBS 2008 server running Exchange 2007.  I have just discovered that Outlook 2016 is not compatible with Exchange 2007.

Is it possible to upgrade Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010 on SBS 2008 and what are the steps required? Can exchange just be upgraded or do I need to install Exchange 2010 and then migrate mailboxes etc across?

Does SBS 2008 support Exchange 2010?

Thanks but I have already read that, I was just trying to get some personal experiences to see if anyone had installed it on SBS 2008

No, don't do it. It will break all your wizards etc.  You could put Exchange 2010 on it's own box and it would be better.  Again wizards would break, daily report will stop working etc.

If you return the software, I'd move them to Office 365

Agree with Chris here, you can't do an in-place upgrade of Exchange on SBS.  In the past the simplest thing would have been to do a migration from SBS 2008 to SBS 2011.

You're best option now would be to move to Office 365 as suggested.  You could look at moving to Server 2012 and a later version of exchange but this would be expensive as the SBS packages are no longer available.

Server 2012 R2 Essentials and Office 365 is your best option for a migration.
