WSUS Migration issue from Server 2003 to Server 2012R2

Hello all

I have been following this Microsoft Video for this migration

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=on__gF-bSHs

Everything had been going great till I hit the part where you need to run this powershell command on the 2012 server

$updateServer = get-wsusserver
$config = $updateServer.GetConfiguration()
$config.ServerId = [System.Guid]::NewGuid()
$config.Save()

I run this script and get the following error and cannot determine what is wrong to proceed further

get-wsusserver : Exception of type
'Microsoft.UpdateServices.Administration.WsusInvalidServerException' was thrown.

I need help pretty quick if someone can help and advise

Thank you

What happens if you start powershell only with the command get-wsusserver ?

I found it simpler and faster to transition using the replica mechanism, with the migration of the auto approval requiring manual input as well as product classification....

Configure the 2012 as a replica/subordinate to the existing 2003 wsu (you might want to run the cleanup wizard on the 2003 first). Let it sync down all the updates and their current status.
Once the data is synchronized, you can add the auto approve rules, product classifications, after reconfiguring the 2012 as getting the updates from ms directly............
