How to Standardise Exchange Webmail email link?

Dear Sirs,

Currently, our exchange owa (Outlook Web Access) url is https://mail3.silterra.com/owa, with digital certificate mail3.silterra.com. Our user need to remember and type correctly every time want to access to web mail. Sometime user type wrongly, and cause them unable access to webmail. Hence, we plan to standardise our webmail access to mail.silterra.com or http://mail.silterra.com. When user type mail.silterra.com, it will change to https://mail3.silterra.com/owa.

Need your advice what is the best way to achieve this access.

Thanks.

Sounds as easy as a domain alias or repoint. Is there something more complex here that I'm missing?

Hello Panda,

Yes, it is possible alike normal website redirection you can re-direct the current url onto desired one with the help of IIS manager. Click on “HTTP Redirect” and put the required details in the box.

Hi Clark Kent,

Thanks for your response. I believe this is to redirect https and OWA URL. How about mail3.silterra.com to mail.silterra.com? Do I need to buy the new certificate for new URL for mail.silterra.com. Or I just point the mail.silterra.com to the IP address as mail3.silterra.com? If not buy the digital cert, does browser prompt for Security Certification prompt? Need your advice.

Thanks.

Hi Panda5888,

why not just try this:

1. Create DNS Entry for mail.silterra.com
2. Buy a new certificate (or update your existing one, depending on your contracts) to reflect the new URL.
3. You have to Change the EXTERNAL URL for OWA and ECP.

That sounds a lot more best practice than fumbling around with IIS Settings?

Dear Marcel,

Currently, we are using mail3.silterra.com digital certificate. We plan to buy *.silterra.com to be insert in the Exchange OWA server, so we can point DNS to mail.silterra.com to current IP address. Howover, how about mail3.silterra.com/owa? Is there any simple ways to auto convert from https://mail.silterra.com/owa to http://mail.silterra.com only. We want to achieve is user only require to type mail.silterra.com to access to OWA, instead of https://mail.silterra/owa.

Thanks.
