Avoid ESX Datastore to become full

Hi there,
To prevent problems, we are looking for a solution to avoid a datastore to become full.
Is there a way to do this?

Let me explain this further: I'm thinking in the direction of creating rules that will be run when a datastore reaches its limits.
I.e.: We use Veaam to create backups of the ESX cluster. Veaam therefore creates snapshots. Maybe it is possible to create a rule that it stops with creating the snapshot and delete it immediately when the datastore reaches its limit.

We always ensure, that the space on a datastore is 20-30% free, this reflects, space used by snapshots and vSWAP files.

You can create a datastore alert for the acceptable usage levels and manage the datastore usage manually

This should help, it is still relevant for the latest versions

The functionality you are talking about would need to function within Veeam as it is creating the snapshots.  If you try and automate a process to remove the snapshots as an action to a datastore usage alert then Veeam will have all sorts of issues...

Veeam deletes the snapshot it creates immediately after they are done processing the backup job.

If space is concern, I would just set extra alerts. The datastor already has default alerts, and maybe you would want more at different levels.

@EnriquePhoenix - All backup applications are supposed to delete the snapshots, but 2-3 questions a week on EE, would reveal backup applications do not! and it's been like that for 13+ years!

Also VMware Admins, create Snapshots and forget them......
