I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You can configure shadow copies on the server so that there is a live "backup" copy of everything in certain server locations:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771305.aspx

There are also 3rd party apps that will save a copy of deleted items.  One I've used is called "Undelete" - it's been around for ages:

I think the 3rd party app is more efficient than using Windows shadow copies, since you have more granular control over what it saves.
