Updating VMware ESXi 5.1 Update 3 with ESXi 5.5 Update 3a ?

People,

My current environment is running HP Blades Server BL 465c G7 and G8 on c7000 enclosure with 2x Virtual Connect Modules.

So at the meoment it is running on ESXi 5.1 Update 3 but now I'm thinking to upgrade it to the latest stable edition before 6.0 release 1a is there any caveats or steps that I can do to ensure smooth upgrade to VMware ESXi 5.5 Update 3a ?

I've never done major version upgrade just wondering what is involved in this matter.

Thanks.

Thanks Ankit.

So I guess it is basically just click on Next-Next-Finish approach right ?

I was wondering if there is any caveats or things that was an issue during or after the upgrade to 5.5 Update 3.

I have to ask, WHY, would you be going to 5.5......at this time?

Waste of time in my opinion, in changing versions.....

Also check ALL firmwares and Servers are on the HCL. (Important!), we would wait until ready to transition to 6.0 (or the latest U1a)

A number of options to complete the upgrade..... it can be done as simple as

1. CDROM Installer Upgrade
2. Inplace offline upgrade as per my EE Article

Because at the moment I need to deploy some Windows 10 Desktop VM and also Windows Server 2016.

and also better response from using vSphere web client. What else that you can think of a great improvement ?

5.1 or 5.5 - Web Client - same issues! Don't upgrade because of that!

Windows 10, Windows Server 2016 is not released yet!

The only reason I state this is the headaches, you could experience with 5.5, and then you'll get them again with 6.0!

Thanks Andrew, so I assume that after the ESXi 5.1U3 to 5.5 U3am the Distributed Virtual Switch (DVS/vDS) configuration will remain intact since it is stored in VCenter ?
