I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Best way is go into your server document and if you haven't already on the basics tab change the option "Load Internet configurations from Server\Internet Sites documents:" to Enabled.

Then in the Internet sites view - under Web then Internet sites in names.nsf you can create internet site documents.  Those are used for directing different incoming websites to different databases etc.  One of which you can tick a box saying it is the default one.

Anything that hits the port 80 or whatever you run Domino on will then check the "host headers" in the http request to see which website matches the url.  Then site1.mydomain.com can be pointed at site1.nsf and site2.mydomain.com to site2.nsf etc.

Within those you can put other rules like redirects , e.g. to make http://site1.mydomain.com/xyz point to a specific longer url etc.

By default if you connect to the server over port 80 without any site documents the default page will probably bring back nothing.  You can add a url, e.g. http://whatever/names.nsf and it will prompt for login and then show you that database.

One use for this tends to be a web email access.  You would point emails.domain.com in there to a database based on the "ibm inotes redirect" template and then when you connect to that url it looks up the mail database of the user logging in and opens their mail for them.
