Using Windows Server 2012R2 remoteFX with vmware vSphere

Hi folks,

We are planning a new remote desktop services farm using Windows Server 2012 R2 on our vsphere cluser.
I can't find any complete information if there is finally a possibility of using RemoteFX or a comparable alternative technology on vsphere (5.5 or 6.0)

Does someone have experience in that?

Thanks for any help.

You will need to use a Bare Metal hosts to host your RemoteFX - Hyper-V VDI hosts.

1. you will need a GPU on the RemoteFX HCL (passthrough)
2. you will also need Hyper-V hypervisor.

You can run Hyper-V nested under VMware vSphere, but performance will be poor, and it's not supported.

or switch and use VMware Horizon View.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your answer.

We don't want to use Hyper-V and VMware View. Is there another way?

RemoteFX is an extended function of RDP, when using Hyper-V VDI.
Problems using Powershell and Active Directory?

Managing Active Directory does not always have to be complicated.  If you are spending more time trying instead of doing, then it's time to look at something else. For nearly 20 years, AD admins around the world have used one tool for day-to-day AD management: Hyena. Discover why

I know. Therefor I asked for "a comparable alternative technology on vsphere"... would there only be VMware Horizon View as alternative?

You can compare the VDI technologies in this Whitepaper, which is hosted here:-

http://pqr.com/downloadformulier

the following are comparable to RemoteFX

VMware Horizon View (PCoIP)
Citrix XenDesktop (Citrix ICA/HDX)
Citrix VDI in a Box  (Citrix ICA/HDX)
Dell vWorkspace (Quest EOP, xRDP)

these are all compared in the whitepaper, and are compatible with VMware vSphere unlike RemoteFX which needs Hyper-V.
