To test RDP for multiple machines

Do we have any automated way to check rdp for  50 + machines/vms -windows 2k3,2008,2012 at same time.

just need to make sure if rdp is fine after reboot.

any automated fast and free utility can help to check for RDP connectivity status and ping as well for multiple windows machines ?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

To check RDP means to go at least until the authentication, and that's a bit difficult to automate. Other than that we can only check if the port is open.

can we take all server name from text/csv file to be loaded in admin pack with same cred like from same domain ?
and then if its possible to check in quick way

use, telnet, and telnet to port 3389, unless you have Tevron CitraTest, which enables you to test RDP.
Making Bulk Changes to Active Directory

Watch this video to see how easy it is to make mass changes to Active Directory from an external text file without using complicated scripts.

Checking with credentials requires 3rd-party software.

any name please
Qlemo"Batchelor", Developer and EE Topic AdvisorCommented:
We use DameWare to start RDP with parameters like host and credentials. The executing machines require a DameWare license.

The ActiveX RDP plug-in might still work, then an e.g. PowerShell script can be used for free.

@Qlemo.Thanks

Pls share the powershell solution if we can try ?
Qlemo"Batchelor", Developer and EE Topic AdvisorCommented:
I was wrong with the PowerShell solution. It just generates a RDP file with scripted settings, and starts a RDP session. Not really useful ...

okay ,Thanks

So would you like to fall back to check for RDP port open only?
patronTechnical consultant Author Commented:
pls share automated way for that  and will that be okay to consider if rdp port is open,rdp should be fine ?
Qlemo"Batchelor", Developer and EE Topic AdvisorCommented:
No, an open RDP port is an indication, but no proof, that RDP works. as there is a lot more running if you try to authenticate, and that is the part which might fail. Checking the port is a maybe 50% proof.
For batch checking a port, I would use netcat (e.g. from https://eternallybored.org/misc/netcat/).
.CMD batch sample:
@echo off
setlocal EnableDelayedExpansion

for /F "tokens=*" %%S in (C:\Temp\ServerList.txt) do (
  set ping=n
  set RDP=n
  ping -n 2 %%S >nul && set ping=y
  if !ping! == y netcat.exe -z -w 1 %%S 3389 && set RDP=y
  echo Server %%S ping: !ping! RDP: !RDP!
)
