Installing a WebServer on Debian

Hi,

Trying to get away from cPanel!

Outside of installing Apache, MySQL and PHP, is there anything else I need to consider? Is it really that easy?

Also, MySql or Maria DB?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Yes and no.  You also have to configure Apache and create users in MySQL.  This looks like decent instructions on installing what you want:  http://www.unixmen.com/how-to-install-lamp-stack-on-debian-8/  You probably don't want to re-install things you already have.

MySQL vs MariaDB - I like later, but use whichever you have available.
Probably your cpanel hosting uses httpd event or worker mpm.

Might be worth looking up Bitnami.
