asked on

what is the difference between PHP for Windows and MySQL for WIndows?

Hello and Good Afternoon Everybody,

I am getting ready to undertake the project of creating a website offline.  Two tools which will be needed are PHP for Windows and MySQL for Windows.  Since I am not familiar with these tools and what they actually do with respect to their functions, could someone explain in simple terms what the differences are between PHP for Windows and MySQL for Windows?

              Thank you

Hello and Good Afternoon Everybody,

Thanks so much for the wide variety of insights shared to this post.  Seeing that I am not a programmer or system administrator by profession, I certainly appreciate the terms (PHP, MySQL, Apache webserver, etc.) being broken down to simpler terms within each of the responses.  I am confident I know enough now to get started.  If I should have more questions,  I will create a new post identifying my concern and request assistance.

Have a good rest of the day everybody.

              George

PHP is a widely-used server-side scripting language especially suited for web development, powering tens of millions of sites from Facebook to personal WordPress blogs. PHP is often paired with the MySQL relational database, but includes support for most other mainstream databases. By utilizing different Server APIs, PHP can work on many different web servers as a server-side scripting language.
