Problem with web sites.

Hi,

I am helping my friend out with there web sites not displaying correctly but I am getting inconsistent results. So looking for suggestions on how to resolve this. I want to make sure I can browse across the various IE versions but am seeing some strange results:

Here are the two web sites:

http://bsp.net.au/
http://www.healthplay.com.au/

On on my machine - Windows 10 x64 Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.14)

With IE 11 (11.11.10586.0)

http://bsp.net.au/ - Crashes saying "Internet Explorer has stopped working"
http://www.healthplay.com.au/ - Crashes saying "Internet Explorer has stopped working"

Microsoft Edge

Both sites work ok

---------------------------------

In a VM on Windows 8.1 (Version 6.3 Build 9600) - IE Version 11. (11.0.9600.16384)

Both sites work ok

---------------------------------

In a VM running Windows 10.0 (Build 10240) - IE Version 11 (11.0.10240.16590)

http://bsp.net.au/
http://www.healthplay.com.au/ - Crashes saying "Internet Explorer has stopped working"

Microsoft Edge

Both site work OK

So my objective is to make sure *somehow* these web sites are compatible with IE 11
and Edge. Looks like Edge is ok but IE 11 is not.

So here are my questions:

Ok so I realize that the versions are slightly different but I would of thought
IE 11 should be consistent at this level?

So any suggestions on how to resolve to get it working on all sub versions of IE 11?

Thanks,

Ward.

The two sites are completely different.  The first site http://bsp.net.au/ is formatted incorrectly.  It should have a 'frames' DOCTYPE instead of XHTML.  The second site is a Wordpress site.

Dave,

Thanks for your answer. So assuming from your answers if I change the HTML on the first site it should display correctly. Sub versions of IE 11 handle this issue in different ways?

Any suggestions on how to resolve the issues with the Wordpress site?

Thanks,
Ward.

Both sites display 'ok' in Firefox.  In IE11, the bad formatting is causing it to not display all the content.  Firefox will scroll where IE11 won't.  Bet you thought all browsers were the same.

I get IE11 crashing on the second site also but not in Firefox.  Works 'ok' in Chrome and Opera also.

Sub versions of IE 11
What does that mean?

Dave,

Thanks for your response. I did not think all browsers would be the same. However, I did think that it would be consistent within the major version.

So all versions of IE 11 would render a website the same way. So in my case.

IE 11 (11.11.10586.0)
IE 11 (11.0.9600.16384)
IE 11 (11.0.10240.16590)

Would all handle things the same because it is IE 11.x (By sub version I guess I really should of said different builds). So for IE 11 in my example I am dealing with the different versions of IE 11. Looks like I was wrong on this assumption.

Thanks,

Ward

I would think that all those versions would work the same except that there must be some reason for different versions.  I only have one version and I didn't check to see which one it is.  By the way, IE8 displays the Wordpress site ok.
