Dear All

I am trying to understand backup in regards to full and incremental's! I know to some of you this might seem to be a stupid question but I would really like need to understand. I am using as I like the fact I can backup to a local device and to the cloud for offsite backups In addition to this I can save more to the local device while setting the cloud side to lower retentions to save on storage space due to the cost of offsite storage. The total used storage space at present is 400GB

Current configuration onsite is as follows:

•Run this backup for every 1 Hour on Sun,Mon,Tue,Wed,Thu,Fri,Sat
•Configured to keep 30 restore points for a week
•Run additional full backup at 12.00 pm on First Sunday of Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec

I need to know how this works as I am at loss on what to tell the business, how much storage that will actually take up.

Can anyone help me?

Incremental backups only backup data that has changed since the last backup, so they will be take up only a little space and the backup will be very fast. You'll just get many such small backups between a full backup and that can in the end result in a lot of space used too.

ShadowProtect from StorageCraft can consolidate those incremental backups into the full backup after a certain age, which cleans up that space. It looks from the screen shot above that your backup tool can't do that...
