How is the replication being done ?<br />

is the VM being snapshotted, and VSS sync driver Application aware, then your SQL database will be consistent.<br />

otherwise, the SQL database will be crash consistent, like the VM has crashed, and SQL server is likely to be Recovery Mode.<br />

We're use a SRM server with server replication adapters ruining on VMware.<br />
The replication is being done via SAN to SAN replication, which is apparently <br />
SRM aware. The solution is not in pace yet so can't test it atm.

When the SAN to SAN replication is being done, does it quiesce file activity or Application ?<br />

e.g. we have NetApp SANs, and we can Snapshot the volumes, with and without, quiesce-ing.<br />
<br />
If we just Snapshot the volume without - quiesce-ing - on occasion we end up with good SQL servers, but sometimes, we end up with SQL DB's in recovery mode.<br />
<br />
if we Snapshot the volume with - quiesce-ing - this is better - BUT our DBAs, have reported the action of VMware Tools - Snapshot function, on a heavily loaded I/O SQL server, causes the original server SQL DB to go into Recovery Mode.<br />
<br />
So, we do SQL DB backups via DPM, and in the event of DR, we Replicate the SQL DB Server, and Restore the DBs from DPM.<br />
<br />
This has been found in use, by experimentation, and testing, in our environment, and customers environments.

HI, I don't know the answer to this question re' SAN to SAN as we're only in the tender process for this equipment. &nbsp;I'm pretty sure we're not snapshotting the Servers as such and we're doing a 15 mins SAN to SAn block level replication.

Using SRM With MS SQL DB Servers
