asked on

why am I getting spammed? what list am I on?

Looks like EE bought somebody's mailing list, or is subscribing to a cookie-scraping service.

Why are they spamming my corporate email address?

Are my contributions not enough?

Seems like a questionable practice when the contributors here give professional-quality advice about spam filtering, the morality and fairness of confirmed opt-in email marketing...

What list did I end up on?

Hi WhackAMod,

Yeah...they didn't respond to my email questions.

It's their standard email marketing campaign trying to convince businesses to buy membership for their tech support staff.

Question is...where did they buy my email address?  They're doing the typical "unsubscribe" link, as if I voluntarily subscribed.

But, I didn't.

So, I thought that other EE users are probably caught in the same marketing net, and might have some advice on where I can get my email address removed.
My EE account here uses my personal email.

They're spamming my new corporate email account.

My new corporate email has no relationship to EE at all.
Yeah...Melanie Spatola was getting conversational with us riff-raff in the Lounge.  I though we might finally have some insight into HQ...but she left.
Thanks WhackAMod.  I appreciate the effort.

Ahh, the irony.  I just got the email notice that my free-ness has exipred.

I am now a paying customer again.  :)
Would have to make private, since the headers will have sensitive information.

Been getting them since at least October.

Sent just now.

As for helpful people signing people up for mailing lists...that's kind of 1990s.

Back when verified opt-in or double-opt-in didn't exist.

In the 21st century, there should be zero chance of spam from third-party signups.

Now, it comes from buying dirty lists and using cookie scraping services that aggregate and convert browser information.

Just trying to find out how they got my address, and what mechanism was used to obtain it.

Fair questions.  But no-one ever seems to answer.

Catherine,

EE is no stranger to archiving non-technical questions.  If this is in the wrong category, perhaps it can be moved.

I object to deleting it.  It's a valid question.  Undoubtedly, other EE members may have the same problem.  It would be easier to search and link than to start duplicate questions.

I think it is a helpful Q.  And positive that EE is admitting that there might be some problems to overcome, and will strive to do better.

Sincerely,
aleghart
