Accessing the root director on an iPhone

Hi, I connected my iPhone 5S to my Windows PC via a USB cable. Pursuant to that connection I was able to see the following folder/file structure:

     - Fulano iPhone                                                                  (Device)
        - Internal Storage                                                            (Root Folder)
          - DCIM                                                                            (Folder contains 2 sub-folders)
             - 100Apple  --- This folder contains 739 images      (Folder containing image files)
             - 101Apple  --- This folder contains 223 images      (Folder containing image files)

However, I cannot save a file or create a folder into the "Internal Storage" root directory (folder).

Why is that? What is preventing me from creating a sub-folder or placing a TXT file at the root of the "Internal Storage" root folder? How does one get around that...assuming someone wanted to do that?

Your assistance in understanding what is technically happening and your advice would be appreciated.

Best Regards,
Fulano

Apple's security measures keep you from gaining root access to your phone. In order to get around that, you would need to utilize exploits to get around it, a practice commonly known as "Jailbreaking".

There are several "teams" of individuals who specialize in that, and a common website to get news, information, and software to "Jailbreak" your phone is www.redsn0w.us

Please keep in mind that if you do intend to "Jailbreak" your phone, it will invalidate the phone's warranty, as well as any AppleCare packages you may have purchased.

Hi Sean, thank you ....I don't have any intention of "jail-breaking" the iPhone. I simply want to use the storage space for an App I would like to create and wanted to know how I could access the space.

Thank you again,
Fulano
I see, I may have misunderstood your question!

If you're looking to do app development, https://developer.apple.com/ is a good place to start.

You would however, need to get a developer license, (https://developer.apple.com/support/purchase-activation/ for more information), as Apple doesn't do Open Source development like Android/Google does.
Hi Sean, perhaps a new questions that I recently posted will help you understand what I would like to do. The title of my question is:  "Create an iPhone App that will use the phone's "Internal Storage" area for App data storage."

Its posted to the iOS and Apple Programming sections.

If you have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate your help.
